Our handbuilding classes are an excellent introduction to working with clay. This class covers the fundamental ceramic techniques of handbuilding including slab, coil, and pinch pots as well as decorative techniques such as stamping, texturing and glazing. Students create a collection of pottery art such as vases, lidded boxes, serving platters and other handbuilt artwork.
We have had family groups, church groups and office groups take this class and it was a "fun" and interactive activity for all of them. Maybe you would like to get together with a friend and meet others in the class that are there to do something creative. Or get a group of four to eight friends and co-workers together for a fun four weeks.
During the four-week class, you will start with a ball of clay and by the end of the class you will have several pieces fired and glazed! All materials are covered in the $100.00 cost of the class.
Pictures at right are actual samples of handbuilding students' work. Believe it or not, the fish are made with two pinch pots! The project for two pinch pots is to create an animal and the fish is definitely most favored. MOST students surprise themselves with their own creativity. We are here to give some direction and watch the imagination jump into the clay!
